Mombasa County has launched a month-long beach cleanup drive targeting plastic waste along Nyali, Bamburi and Diani beaches ahead of the festive tourist season.
The exercise brings together youth groups, hotel operators and county enforcement officers, with trucks collecting sorted waste for recycling.
Tourism stakeholders say clean beaches are key to reclaiming Mombasa's position as the region's top holiday destination, with hotel bookings already up 30 percent.
The county has also announced new litter fines and additional bins along the beachfront.
