How Jumping Off Speeding Car After Brakes Failed Ended Life Of Young Woman, Marakwet

A woman lost her life at Biretwo Centre in Elgeyo Marakwet County after leaping from a vehicle that had suffered a total brake failure while in motion.

Phylis Jeruto was among the passengers when the vehicle's brakes failed, leaving the driver with no way to bring it to a controlled stop.

Faced with a speeding vehicle she could not control, Jeruto made the fateful decision to jump out, reportedly hoping to spare herself from what she feared would be a far worse outcome.

The jump proved fatal. Jeruto died from injuries sustained when she hit the ground, even as the vehicle continued along its path with the remaining passengers still inside.

In a painful twist of fate, those who stayed in the vehicle survived. The contrast between Jeruto's outcome and that of her fellow passengers has left the community grappling with grief and disbelief, as the woman who acted on instinct to protect herself ended up paying the ultimate price.
