Mwiki Woman Who Tried To Abort Without Notifying Husband Dies, Body Dumped In Morgue

New details have emerged how woman in Mwiki, Nairobi lost her life after botched abortion to avoid unwanted pregnancy despite paying sh6K.

Doricas Karimi, a mother of three, died after an alleged botched abortion at a medical facility in Mwiki, Nairobi, after reportedly consulting with medical practitioners and agreeing to undergo the procedure and medication at a cost of Sh6,000.

According to sources, Doricas was married and already had three children. However, she was reportedly uncomfortable with the latest pregnancy and decided to terminate it without informing her husband.

On Friday, October 5, Doricas allegedly left home after paying the Sh6,000, intending to undergo the procedure and return safely. She had reportedly searched for a facility where she could obtain abortion services and settled on Ponya Medical Centre in Mwiki.

Sources said she arrived at the facility at around 9am, prepared to undergo the procedure. However, what was expected to be a routine visit reportedly turned tragic after her condition deteriorated.

Doricas later died, according to the family, and her body was allegedly taken to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary without her relatives being immediately informed.

Her family members became worried after they could not establish her whereabouts. Their search eventually led them to the Mama Lucy mortuary, where they were reportedly shocked to discover the body of their loved one.

The discovery left her husband, relatives and friends devastated as they struggled to come to terms with her sudden death.

The family is now calling for investigations into the circumstances surrounding Doricas’ death.

They want authorities to establish what happened at the facility and whether proper medical procedures were followed before and after the abortion.

The relatives are also seeking justice and closure, while raising concerns about the safety of women seeking reproductive health services.
