The Church of Uganda has launched an internal investigation after a retired reverend serving in Abim District exchanged blows with a local leader during Sunday service at All Saints Church.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 27 September 2026, at All Saints Church, Abim, in the Diocese of North Karamoja.
A video circulating online shows Rev Canon Richard Ongom, a retired clergyman on contract, confronting a man identified as the area LC2 chairman, who entered the church during the service seeking to address congregants about “security-related information” from an earlier meeting with Abim Town Council security officials.
Rev Ongom refused the request, telling the man: “I am in charge here. You will not speak,” after which the disagreement escalated into a physical fight before congregants intervened. The local leader later claimed Rev Ongom bit him on the shoulder, leaving him injured.
