Sonja Madzikanda, the ex-wife of the late Zimbabwean businessman Whicknell Chivayo, has been praised by social media users for taking their two children to mourn their father at his funeral wake.
Sonja arrived at the Chivayo family home in Gletwin, Harare, with the children and her mother, Tabitha Madzikanda, to join relatives and other mourners. She arrived despite the former couple’s highly publicised legal disputes over their marriage, property and children.
Many netizens commended her for putting the children first and allowing them to pay their last respects, calling the gesture mature and compassionate.
Chivayo died alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, and three others in a helicopter crash near Marondera on Wednesday, September 30.
