Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has predicted that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna could be left without a political position after the 2027 General Election, while signalling his intention to work with Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Cherargei made the remarks during a Senate debate on Wednesday, where he criticised Sifuna over his opposition to the proposed Lamu oil refinery project before turning to the Nairobi senator's political ambitions.
Cherargei suggested that Sifuna's presidential ambitions could leave him without a political seat after the 2027 elections. He also indicated that he plans to align himself with Kalonzo as political formations take shape ahead of the election.
The Nandi senator did not announce a formal political agreement with Kalonzo, making his remarks an indication of his intended political direction rather than a confirmed alliance.
Cherargei's comments come days after the Linda Mwananchi Movement formally endorsed Sifuna as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election. The movement said Sifuna would lead the unveiling of the political party through which he intends to contest the presidency in early October.
Cherargei has previously questioned Sifuna's political plans and criticised his opposition to the Lamu refinery project. His latest remarks further highlight the political differences emerging as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 election.
Meanwhile, Kalonzo remains active in efforts to shape the opposition's political direction ahead of the polls. Cherargei's comments therefore signal another potential alignment as political leaders continue to negotiate partnerships and positions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
