Gachagua Makes Major 2027 Declaration in Boston as He Reveals Opposition Plan to Face Ruto

Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has reiterated that opposition leaders are working towards fielding a single presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an engagement with Kenyans in Boston, Massachusetts, Gachagua said efforts were underway to maintain unity within the opposition ahead of the polls.

He also accused President William Ruto’s administration of attempting to divide opposition leaders. Gachagua used the phrase “Kasongometer” to describe what he claimed was his party’s ability to identify people allegedly working to disrupt opposition unity.

“Huyu Kasongo ameplant moles, kutugawanya, kutusumbua, kutuconfuse our people. But in DCP we have developed an equipment called Kasongometer,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President said the opposition would continue working towards presenting one candidate against Ruto in 2027.

Gachagua has previously called on opposition leaders seeking the presidential ticket to publicly commit to supporting whoever is eventually selected. He has also said he would support the agreed candidate if he does not secure the nomination himself.

His latest remarks come as opposition parties and political leaders continue consultations over a possible joint arrangement ahead of the election.

The question of who will represent the opposition remains unresolved. Several politicians have expressed presidential ambitions, while discussions continue on how the various parties and leaders could work together.

Gachagua is currently in the United States as part of an extended diaspora tour. His Boston engagement is among several meetings he has held with Kenyans living abroad.
